Your child should bring home to you their five new spelling words every week. They receive these words on Monday. You can also access their weekly lists via the Spelling City app. On Spelling City you will also find a personal list of words for your child. That will include any words he/she has missed on the tests in previous weeks.

ARTSONIA - Watch for a permission slip coming home for Artsonia. Artsonia is an online student art gallery that allows us to share student artwork with parents and the public online! Parents can grant permission online using directions given on the slip or they may sign and return the slip to Mrs. Andrews.
ART CHALLENGE - We are beginning an Art Challenge at Jeffers for all K-4 students! The art challenge will be posted on the bulletin board outside the art room and on the Jeffers Art facebook page. Students can draw, paint or sculpt something that follows the theme and turn it in to Mrs. Andrews by the deadline to have their artwork shown online and get their named entered in a drawing for a special prize! The next art challenge is to DRAW SOMETHING THAT ISN'T REAL The deadline is OCTOBER 16. The third week of third grade has flown by and these kiddos and pretty well acclimated to the way things work as an UPPER elementary student. Last week we began switching classes with Mr. Talmadge twice a week for science lessons. Kids know exactly where to go for their specials in the morning and LOVE that they are intermixed with other homerooms at that time. Class pictures were taken last week. Yep. They've got this third grade thing down!
One big, BIG lesson we are working on is selecting "just-right" books. Current research suggests that time spent reading books at an appropriate level is the most effective way to make kids love reading. For that reason, I will be sending kids home with Baggie Books starting this coming Tuesday. Together, your child and I have selected what we feel are appropriate books for them. Click here for a letter that contains further explanation and contact me with any questions. Finally, you should all know that Christmas arrived early in our classroom yesterday. In case you haven't heard, we got our iPads!!!!!! What a way to end the week! Students will most likely be bringing theirs home on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week.........quite honestly because they will need to be charged. Please keep in mind this is a new (but exciting) endeavor for all of us. As you have questions, please ask them. Chances are someone else is asking the same thing. Just a quick reminder that our library day is Friday. Thank you!!! Well, the first week of third grade is in the books. The adjustment back into a school routine can be tough, but it is my hope that you have found it to be as smooth as possible. I want you to know, parents & guardians especially, that I take the following quote from Maya Angelou very seriously:
"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." My highest priority in this classroom is that the students feel valued when they are here. If at any time you or your child are not feeling that this is the case, I want to know. Don't ever hesitate to contact me when you feel it is necessary. Communication between home and school is arguably the single most important factor in a child's academic success. We spent the majority of our time this past week getting to know procedures and routines. On Friday I introduced our classroom economy. Students earn "Mrs. O'Bucks" throughout the week, with a pay day on Fridays. Likewise, students can be "fined" for poor choices or unfulfilled responsibilities throughout the week. Hand outs will be distributed with details of this system on Monday. Thank you for signing your child's planner daily and for making this a part of your daily home-school communication routine. Starting Monday students will also be bringing home a weekly reading log. This is for the students only. No signatures required of adults. We will begin third grade curriculum work on Monday.
