Second Grade Art Room News
We sure are off to a great start in the art room. Second graders began the year exploring how smaller shapes come together to make larger objects. All great artists are able to see the shapes in larger forms. We studied photos of animals and used paper shapes to construct the animals. Next, we tried using shapes to draw the animals.
For our second project we studied the artwork of John Audubon. We used what we learned about shapes coming together to draw amazing birds. These lovely works were painted for our Art To Remember Fundraiser (more information soon).
Now, we are studying the work of Romare Bearden. He is a collage artist that uses lots of paper scraps and photographs to create scene about events in his life. We are currently working on a collage to create a scene from our own life. You might think collaging sounds easy, but there is a lot to think about when you are layering papers and creating a scene!
