A big, big thank you for all parent contributions towards pizza! The kids were SO excited about our pizza party. We even watched some original episodes of The Muppets while we ate. We have been doing a lot of work with non-fiction reading lately and, as part of that, I read aloud a biography of Jim Henson. The kids really enjoyed seeing all the creations they'd been hearing about.
I have challenged the students once again to increase their AR points. This time, the challenge is for everyone in class to get an additional 4 points. That will earn them another pizza party PLUS an extra recess! Already , three of them have reached that goal and a fourth is only 1 point away! Math is becoming increasingly challenging for the kids, but I am happy to say they are working hard and seem to become more and more independent everyday. Just a reminder to parents that, while the methods taught in classrooms today look quite different than the way we were taught as children, you may help your child to understand their math in any way that works for them and for you. There is more than one way to understand subtraction and, as long as your child can do the work independently and accurately, that's the goal. But, of course, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
