I have added new pics to the photos page. One of the many important transformations that happens in third grade is that students are no longer "learning to read," but now they are "reading to learn." That means formal teaching no longer focuses on decoding words, but focuses on how to glean information from texts. We have begun this important work by practicing finding the main idea and details in our non-fiction reading. Students should begin memorizing their multiplication facts ASAP. Our next chapter begins the study of dividing. We will start it next week. The third and fourth grade concert is this coming Thursday at 7:00. You will want to get there early. Seats fill up quickly.
