Today we wrapped up our second math unit, which focused on multiplying with 6s, 7s, and 8s. About half of the class is really on the way to mastering their math facts. We will continue to drill these facts all year long. It is strongly recommended that your child continue to practice their facts daily, even for 5 minutes. This can be done using an app, flash cards, or any way that works for your family.
Students should continue to read daily over the Thanksgiving break. I am planning on sending each of them home with appropriate baggie books today (Wednesday). These should return on Tuesday, December 1st. Also, we added a course to the Schoology app where students are encouraged to post and discuss books they would recommend to one another. Please encourage your child to contribute. We are continuing to hone our personal narrative writing skills. Students are improving at recognizing seed moments vs. watermelon topics and at using transition words. I anticipate their stories will be sent home for Christmas break and would like to live stream a public reading of our stories prior to that. Details will be forthcoming on that. The third grade holiday workshop will take place on Monday November 30th where students will be creating a Christmas craft using mod podge. Please send your child to school in appropriate clothes for this activity. Finally, look for report cards to come home December 4th.
