It is a exciting, (but challenging) time of year for teachers and students both. Yesterday our class finished our spring assessing. It is always exciting to see how each student has grown during the past school year. It is also a good opportunity for teachers to reflect upon assessment results to determine how to improve our teaching in the future.
As much as students enjoy counting down the days until summer vacation, it also serves as a reminder to teachers of how little time remains to accomplish what must be accomplished. For that reason, students continue to bring home homework and continue to take tests. Our final spelling list went home yesterday. The test will take place Friday, as usual. On Thursday students will take their unit 6 test in math. We will spend lots of time this week reviewing 3-digit addition and subtraction. Here are some quick tutorials so you know what methods I have taught the students: Expanded method Ungroup First method Adding Up method Please note that the students may use any method that works for them as long as they understand it. Finally, please remember we are going on a field trip to John Ball Park Zoo on June 2nd. Thank you to the five chaperons that are coming with us. Many volunteered, but we could only bring five. If you are not on the chaperon list, you can still join us. You will just need to come as a paying zoo customer. Itinerary details will come home soon. For now, just make sure your child has a sack lunch that day.
