Parent-teacher conferences will begin this week and wrap up next week (5:00-8:00 10/19, 10/21, 10/27). You should all have received a half sheet of paper with your conference time written on it. Please let me know ASAP if your time needs to be rescheduled. Communication between home and school is arguably the most powerful way to ensure your child's success in school.
This past week has been spent doing lots of just-right reading. I am pleased that students are beginning to recognize for themselves when a book might be too hard or too easy for them. Current research shows just-right reading is the most effective method of improving your child's reading abilities. In math we are continuing our introduction to multiplication facts. All facts for 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5, 9, & 10 have been introduced as well as ways we can use those facts to help determine multiples of 6, 7, & 8. It is important that students memorize their multiplication facts as quickly as possible. Ace Multiply, 9X9, Splash Math, and Susi Monster are all appropriate iPad apps to use for this purpose. Finally, please remember we are collecting pledges for our annual Jeffers Jive Monster Mash. There are a few changes to the Jive this year, due to building construction and parking constraints. Information has gone home with details. If you have questions, the Jeffers Parent Organization Facebook page is a good resource. \ This also means there will be some changes to our class Halloween party. For any parents who have who volunteered for our Halloween party, I will send out a follow-up email soon. Thanks and have a terrific weekend!
